Who are these people around me?
They’re here
So am I
They belong
Don’t I?
Together we sway and swing
To the beat of suburban subways
Paths crossing / meandering
Eyeballs furtive / prancing
Shoulders agitated / twitching
Close we are
Yet so far removed
In the chaos
Much more in solitude
The gnawing sense of loss
Calmer moments waft in
A gentle breeze
On a warm summer day
Fulfilment, some contentment
A moment of meditation
But wait, it strikes again
The pangs - of love
Of hearts drawn apart
Wedged by distance
Connected by cable
Not fonder, just farther
You have it all
And yet none of it
Except the shallow shadow
That’s yours
Lurking low
And hollow
Sure, there’s Hope too
With Fear for company
Hello stranger –
Are you friend? Are you foe?
Are you there? How ‘bout a beer?
Oh, to break away
To go back
To belong
To murder some dreams
To dream some more
To find the familiar
To ply the pervious
To touch, to feel
Never to ask - Who’s mine?
Never to ask - Where’s home?
